Uses of Gabapentin

Gabapentin is used to manage pain in the area affected by herpes zoster after the disease has been treated.
Gabapentin Directions
Take Gabapentin exactly as directed by your doctor. Gabapentin is not known to cause stomach upset and may be taken alone or with food. Do not share your prescription of Gabapentin with anyone, even if their symptoms are similar to your own.
Gabapentin Precautions
DO NOT STOP TAKING Gabapentin without first discussing with your doctor. Gabapentin MAY CAUSE DROWSINESS or dizziness. Gabapentin WILL ADD TO THE EFFECTS OF ALCOHOL and other depressants. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS until you know how you react to Gabapentin. Using Gabapentin alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Gabapentin during pregnancy. Gabapentin IS EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while taking Gabapentin, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the benefits and risks to your baby.
Gabapentin Side Effects
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking Gabapentin include tiredness, drowsiness, dizziness, tremor, back pain, dry mouth, constipation, increased appetite, or an upset stomach. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience decreased coordination, changes in vision (double or blurred vision), back and forth eye movements, persistent sore throat or fever, swelling of ankles, mental or mood changes, memory loss, or trouble speaking. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
Gabapentin Drug Interactions
DO NOT TAKE Gabapentin within 2 hours of taking an aluminum- or magnesium-containing antacid.
Gabapentin Overdose
If overdose of Gabapentin is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
Missed Dose of Gabapentin
IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF Gabapentin, take it as soon as possible. If it is less than 2 hours until your next dose, take the missed dose immediately and take your next dose 1 to 2 hours later, then go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do NOT take 2 doses at once.
